16 Days of Activism – Say NO to Violence Against Women.
During this time, as well as promoting No to Violence Against Women on social media, we held a Community Conversation – The Next Step, a Walk Against Family Violence and displayed our Speaking Out display.

Centennial Anniversary Inter-District Conference – 6-8 September 2019
Zonta Districts from Australia and New Zealand combined for this event held in Queensland at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
ZCME won an Award for our Advocacy Project – Speaking Out. This was presented during the District 23 Meeting in the morning session. Debbie Grinter, President, accepted the award on behalf of the club.
ZCME won an Award for our PR – during the 16 Days of Activism on Facebook. This was presented during the District 23 Meeting in the afternoon session. Jane Davies accepted the award on behalf of the club.
Opening Ceremony – Di Hillman had the honour of being a Flag Bearer.
Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO was an excellent speaker and spoke with grace and empathy, she was part of the task force that put recommendations to the QLD Government in the report “Not Now Not Ever: Putting an end to Domestic and Family Violence. Over the years in her role as Governor General of Queensland, Dame Quentin put together a book containing many of the letters she received from the general public. In this picture, she is signing copies for Zontians.

Area 1 and Area 4 Combined Annual Workshop – 16th March 2019
ZCME members were very hands on with organising this event as Di Hillman, a ZCME member, was the Area 1 Director at the time.
The workshop was held at the Mount Waverley Community Centre.

At our March meeting, to celebrate International Women’s Day we had the pleasure of having as our Guest Speaker, Elida Brereton, who is a leading Educator and a wonderful raconteur who amused us with entertaining stories encompassing both her professional and private life. Elida was one of Victoria’s most high profile principals and had served the Education Department for 43 years before retiring in 2009. She was at that time Principal of Camberwell High and also the much loved principal in the Chris Lilley series, “Summer Heights High”. She now serves on five Boards and is a committee member of the National Centre Against Bullying (allied with the Alannah and Madeline Foundation).

Christmas Party – December 2017
The Club held our 2017 Christmas Party at the Clarion Hotel in Forest Hill. The Clarion really went out of their way in creating a beautiful table setting and menu. A lovely time was had by all.
November Guest Speakers – Jan Chapman and Kay Stewart
Jan Chapman from the Royal Women’s Hospital Foundation to which our Club has made a donation, made a presentation to show us the various areas of the hospital that have benefited from our donation. The Foundation raises funds to support the vital work of the Women’s, Australia’s first and largest specialist hospital for women and newborn babies. Donations are an integral part of the research, innovation and leadership that brings advances in health care for women.
Kay Stewart, the District 23 United Nations liaison representative, made a presentation outlining Zonta International’s General Consultative Status and its involvement with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) which is at the heart of the United Nations system to advance the three dimensions of sustainable development – economic, social and environmental. Zonta International called on the United Nations and its Member States to find effective short term and long term methods to ensure women’s economic empowerment.
Blue Illusion Fashion Parade – 15 September 2017
We had a lovely fashion parade at Blue Illusion at The Glen on Friday, 15 September where our two gorgeous models, Sylvia and Robyn, showcased some of the latest range for Summer. Lots of shopping was done that night.
Johnson Collection Visit
The Club had a wonderful fellowship outing at the fabulous Johnson Collection in East Melbourne on Saturday, 12th August 2017. The collection is certainly worth a visit.
June Guest Speaker
– Rebecca Patterson
Our Vice President, Beverley Manzie, thanking the Mayor of Monash, Rebecca Patterson, after she had addressed our club at our June 2017 meeting. Rebecca is a great advocate for many of our projects – especially family violence and mental health. It was a privilege to have her as our guest.
July Guest Speaker
– Carmel Martin
Carmel Martin was our Guest Speaker at our July 2017 meeting. Carmel is an Earth Angel with Angel Flight which flies financially needy passengers and compassionate carers free of charge to receive medical help. The pilots donate their time and Earth Angels pick up the passengers from the airport and drive them to their destination, generally a hospital, and then back to the airport.

Birthing Kit Assembly Day
The Club held a very successful Birthing Kit Assembly night on Tuesday, 16th March 2017 at the Ashburton Baptist Church.
64 enthusiastic volunteers made 1000 life saving birthing kits which will provide a clean and safe birthing environment for women in developing countries to reduce the incidence of newborn and maternal morbidity and mortality.

Guest Speaker at our first meeting for 2017 was Lloyd Jenkins, a great story teller, who kept everyone wonderfully entertained with tales of his various travels.

October Guest Speaker – Kristine Olaris
Our Guest Speaker at our 6th October meeting was Kristine Olaris, the CEO of Women’s Health East which works across seven local government areas to address the environmental, political, and social impacts on women’s health and wellbeing.
Blue Illusion Fashion Parade – August 2016
A great fun night was had by all at our annual Blue Illusion Fundraiser Fashion Parade held on 25th August 2016. Our lovely models were Di Hillman and Sylvia Kolorik who both looked resplendent on the catwalk, showing the latest new season fashion.
August Guest Speaker – Danielle Marsh
Guest Speaker on 3 August 2016 was Danielle Marsh from “Face of the Globe Australia”. Danielle spoke of various strategies that can be used to engage and retain members in a volunteer organisation, especially Gen Y (1980-2000).

Our Club was well represented at the “Building Better Boards” Zonta Workshop held at the Melton Country Club on Saturday, 14 May 2016.
Our Club held its 2016 Annual Planning Meeting at the lovely home of the Club’s Secretary, Sylvia Kolarik. It was a very productive afternoon and many positive and creative ideas were put forward for the year ahead.

Christmas Dinner – 3 December 2015
Our Christmas celebration was held at Gateway on Monash and a very enjoyable evening was had by all.
Cameron (Head Chef) and Lyn (Super Waitress) went out of their way as usual to help make our events a great success.
Toiletries bags were assembled for one of the refuges we support. Thank you to all our members.
Guest Speaker at our November 2015 meeting – Dr. Jennifer Luu, chiropractor and Founder of To Love & Serve, who joined a volunteer team of professionals in September 2015 in Cambodia. The team saw over 1200 patients and contributed to the construction of a hearing impaired classroom for deaf children in rural Cambodia.

Adelaide Conference 16-17 October 2015
Our Club was represented by three of our members – Di Hillman (President), Robyn Scholes (Vice President) and Debbie Grinter (Treasurer).
The Head Chef of Gateway on Monash created a very special and delicious dessert for everyone to share to celebrate the Club’s 37 year Anniversary.
The Club held a Fashion Parade fundraiser at Blue Illusion in Glen Waverley and a lot of fun was had by all. Special thanks to all who helped to make it such a success and our models Robyn and Sylvia who looked stunning in all their outfits.
Suzanne Ward, CEO of Streets of Freedom, was the Club’s guest speaker on 3 September. She is pictured here with our President, Di Hillman. Streets of Freedom is a not-for-profit organisation offering help and support to women in the sex industry and those trafficked for sex slavery to Australia to be able to walk into a new life of hope and freedom.
